63. 2 John (Bible Summary)
Greetings (1–3)
- Introduction: John, the elder, greets the chosen lady and her children, whom he loves in the truth, and all those who know the truth. He expresses joy in the truth that abides in them and offers peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Commendation (4)
- Joy in Faithfulness: John is greatly rejoiced to hear that some of the chosen lady’s children are walking in the truth, living according to the commandment they have received from the Father.
Exhortation and Warning (5–11)
- Exhortation to Love One Another (5–6): John urges the lady, and by extension, the church, to love one another. This love is not a new commandment but one they have had from the beginning, which is to walk in truth and love, obeying God’s commandments.
- Warning Against Deceivers (7–11): John warns of deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. These individuals are false teachers and antichrists. He exhorts the believers to be on guard so that they do not lose what they have worked for but instead receive a full reward. He instructs them not to welcome anyone who does not bring the teaching of Christ, as doing so would make them a participant in their evil deeds.
Conclusion and Final Greetings (12–13)
- Final Words: John expresses his desire to visit them and speak to them face to face, as he prefers to speak in person rather than through writing. He concludes with peace and greetings from the children of the chosen sister, affirming their shared bond in the truth.
