Chapter (4) Leadership Principles

1. Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.

2. Poverty is the mother of crime.

3. An empty stomach is not a good political adviser.

4. Loyalty is rare. If you find it, keep it.

5. A man who is not a good servant will not be a good master.

6. The worst ruler is one who cannot rule himself.

7. Everything and everyone is only helpful with responsibility.

8. You are always responsible for how you act, no matter how you feel.

9. The price of greatness is responsibility.

10. Act according to your principles, not your mood.

11. To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.

12. Your words start to lose value when your actions do not match.

13. Your lack of dedication is an insult to those who believe in you.

14. A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.

15. A leader must be what he wants the team to become.

16. The size of the group does not matter; the teamwork does.

17. Leaders ask, admit mistakes, show how to do things, give advice, give direction, work together, say “We”, and earn and deserve respect.

18. A true leader does not create separation; a true leader brings people together.

19. Difficulties show people what they are and who they are.

20. Misfortune tests brave men.

21. The brave man overcomes not only his enemies but his pleasure.

22. Rather fail with honour than succeed by fraud.

23. People want to take your spot until they realise what it takes to play your position.

24. Some work for positions. Some work for needs.

25. Be careful who you let on your ship. Some people will sink the whole ship just because they cannot be the captain.

26. Titles do not make leaders. Actions do.

27. Everyone wants to be clothed with power, but no one wants to be stripped of self.

28. It would help if you had power only when you want to do something harmful. Otherwise, love is enough to get everything done.

29. Man is insatiable for power. He is infantile in his desires and, always discontented with what he has, loves only what he has not.

30. If you have the power to make someone happy, do it. The world needs more of that.

31. You are extremely weak if you have to hurt other people to feel powerful.

32. Leadership is not about position, not about power. It is about responsibility.
