Vashti (Negative Contrast)

Category: Failure of submission & humility

Could endure: Show respect to the king (though imperfect king, she was called to honor her position).
“Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as you do to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22 — principle, not direct OT reference)

Chose wrongly: Refused the king’s command.
“But when the attendants delivered the king’s command, Queen Vashti refused to come.” (Esther 1:12)

Haman

Category: Failure of humility & hatred

Could endure: Accept Mordecai’s refusal humbly, live in peace.
“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people.” (Leviticus 19:18)

Chose wrongly: Plotted to destroy Mordecai and all Jews.

Endured (negatively): Humiliation and execution on his own gallows.

Category: Failure of hatred & rebellion

Could endure: Live peacefully under Persian rule.

Chose wrongly: Attacked the Jews on the appointed day.

Endured (negatively): Defeated and destroyed by the Jews.
