Humanity’s Sinfulness

Category: Failure of righteousness

Could endure: Acknowledge God through creation and truth.
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities… have been clearly seen.” (Romans 1:20)

Chose wrongly: Suppressed the truth, turned to idolatry.
“They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.” (Romans 1:23)

Endured (negatively): God gave them over to sinful desires.

Self-Righteous Hypocrites

Category: Failure of integrity

Could endure: Live according to the law they taught.
“It is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but those who obey the law.” (Romans 2:13)

Chose wrongly: Condemned others while doing the same things.
“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself.” (Romans 2:1)

Endured (negatively): Stored up wrath.

Category: Failure of faith

Could endure: Believe in the Messiah foretold in their Scriptures.

Chose wrongly: Sought righteousness by works.

Could endure: Live in harmony in the Spirit.
