Chapter (2) Lifelong Learning

1. Master the art of active learning.

2. If you give me six hours to chop down a tree, I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.

3. Learn as if you were to live forever; live as if you were to die tomorrow.

4. Learn like an apprentice, train like an athlete, work like a machine, fight like a champion, think like a genius, speak like a philosopher, move like a spy, lead like a king.

5. Only expect long-lasting results if you are willing to go deep.

6. Every story will glorify the hunter until the lion learns how to write.

7. The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot.

8. To read a book means to hold another mind in your hands.

9. Reading all good books is like conversing with the finest minds of past centuries.

10. If you want the present to be different from the past, study the past.

11. Your future depends mainly on the books you read, the food you eat, the habits you adopt, the people you spend time with, and the conversations you engage in.

12. People need to realize how a man’s whole life can be changed by one book.

13. Reading a book might not change your life. However, reading many books could, and one of them could.

14. The book to read is not the one that thinks for you but makes you think.

15. Read to challenge your beliefs, not to confirm them.

16. Look for books that make you think harder, not easier.

17. Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.

18. If you are going to get anywhere in life, you must read many books.

19. Reading gives us someplace to go when we must stay where we are.

20. Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. Train your brain with diverse perspectives, challenge your beliefs, and expand your horizons through the power of books.

21. A mind is like a parachute. It only works if it is open.

22. Read to expand your mind. Write to organize your mind. Build to focus your mind.

23. The mind, once enlightened, cannot again become dark.

24. People who read books and do research will always sound crazy to people who do not.
