Jerusalem’s Fall

Category: Failure of covenant faithfulness

Could endure: Remain loyal to the LORD.
“If you fully obey the LORD your God… all these blessings will come on you.” (Deuteronomy 28:1–2)

Chose wrongly: Rebelled, chased idols.
“Jerusalem has sinned greatly and so has become unclean.” (Lamentations 1:8)

Priests and Prophets’ Sins

Category: Failure of spiritual leadership

Could endure: Lead people in truth and holiness.
“The lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge… people seek instruction from his mouth.” (Malachi 2:7)

Chose wrongly: Shed innocent blood, misled people.

Category: Failure of hope in God

Could endure: Wait for God’s mercy, repent fully.

Chose wrongly: Gave in to despair, thought hope was lost.
