Judah’s Idolatry

Category: Failure of covenant loyalty

Could endure: Remain faithful to the LORD as husband and King.
“I remember the devotion of your youth… Israel was holy to the LORD.” (Jeremiah 2:2–3)

Chose wrongly: Forsook God, worshiped idols.
“My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)

Endured (negatively): Judgment, drought, exile.

False Prophets

Category: Failure of truth & integrity

Could endure: Speak the true word of God.
“I have put my words in your mouth.” (Jeremiah 1:9)

Chose wrongly: Spoke lies of peace when judgment was coming.
“They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 6:14)

Endured (negatively): Condemned by God, exposed as frauds.

King Jehoiakim

Category: Failure of obedience & reverence

Could endure: Humble himself before God’s word.

Chose wrongly: Burned God’s scroll, despised the message.

Endured (negatively): Prophesied disgraceful death.

People Rejecting Jeremiah’s Message

Category: Failure of listening & repentance

Could endure: Repent at God’s word and live.
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)

Chose wrongly: Refused to listen, mocked God’s word.
